President retires

Nicola HarneyNicola Harney, who has been president of ACAL since 2006, has decided to resign her position as President of ACAL in view of her new job as a solicitor working for the Treasury Solicitors department of government in London. As she will be acting for various government departments in claims, possibly made by ACAL members, it puts her into a potential position of conflict. ACAL is of course a Claimant biased organisation, and as such, unfortunately, Nicola recognised that she could no longer continue in her executive role.

In accordance with the constitution, Vice-President, Peter Garsden takes over the role until the next Annual General Meeting.

Nicola’s enthusiasm for the organisation has not waned at all, and we hope she will keep in touch with us all. Her genuine commitment to the aims of the organisation was always apparent. She attended our very first meeting in London nearly 10 years ago, and has remained a member ever since. She has always specialised in acting for learning disabled clients who had been subject to abuse. Sadly Stewarts solicitors closed down their abuse department in Summer 2006 but Nicola remained in her role on the executive.
We thank Nicola for the hard work and commitment she gave to the organisation, and for the time she gave to a cause which she believed in. We know that we will see her again in the future, and we wish her well.

Thank you Nicola from us all.
