Canadian Lead Cases
Canadian Supreme Court finds a non-profit making organisation vicariously liable for sexual abuse. In this ground breaking case on 6thOctober 1999 the managers of a children's home were found vicariously liable for the acts of a paedophile who had been convicted of indecent assault in the criminal courts. The organisation had made checks before employing him but had not found anything wrong with his background. He went on to abuse children in his care. The case is called Bazley v. Curry.
