Former Executive Officer
Patrick Ayre is Former Executive Officer
Patrick Ayre became a child care social worker in the mid-1970s and has a detailed expert knowledge of child welfare service which stretches back nearly four decades.
He was a fieldworker and manager of children’s services for nearly 20 years before joining the University of Bedfordshire, where he combined teaching, research and writing in the fields of social work and child safeguarding with practice as a Children’s Guardian, the preparation of Serious Case Reviews, and expert evidence in children’s services negligence cases. He took early retirement from the University in 2013 to concentrate on his consultancy activity and particularly his expert witness work.
He regards himself as having been fortunate to have been instructed by solicitors for the Claimant to provide social care reports in a number of key negligence cases in recent years, including Pierce v Doncaster MBC, and the unreported case of Mason v Essex CC in which the award to the Claimants was in the region of £1million.
